Date: May 5, 2017
Time: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM PDT
Event Description:
Join us on Friday, May 5th at 7:00PM for a concert with Alan Reid and Rob van Sante from one of Scotland’s most celebrated folk groups, Battlefield Band! Alan Reid and Rob van Sante present a lively show rooted in the music of Scotland, its rich history, and varied landscape, providing much of the inspiration for their material. Seamless harmonies underpinned by sensitive arrangements on piano, guitars and accordion are topped by an engaging delivery peppered with dry humor and pithy anecdotes. Their latest album, “Rough Diamonds,” is currently showcasing on their regular tours of North America and Europe. The duo also has a special multimedia show built on their third CD ‘The Adventures of John Paul Jones” (2012), a blend of song, narration, and slides. A musical drama version was premiered at the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival in 2012 and performed at the Edinburgh Festival in 2013. Alan Reid was a vital member of celebrated Scottish folk group Battlefield Band from 1969 until 2010. He helped cement the band’s international reputation with his story-style songwriting and sensitive renditions of traditional song. He was nominated at the 2009 Scots Traditions Awards in the “Composer of the Year” category and contributed to Linn Records’ mammoth 12 CD recording of the entire Robert Burns song catalogue. Rob van Sante, sound engineer for Battlefield Band, was born in Holland and has lived most of his life in the north of England. Guitar has always been Rob’s favored instrument–he was initially attracted to rock and blues as a teenager, but it was in England that he discovered a love of folk music. Rob is well known in the English folk scene, playing with a host of folk luminaries and recording many of them in his home studio. Battlefield Band was inducted to the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame in November 2016. Members of the Celtic Arts Foundation enjoy a 20% discount on concert tickets.
