Calling all witches and goblins, princesses and robots, movie stars and Super Heroes! Locals are invited to participate in a safe Trick-or-Treating event Tuesday, October 31, 3:30-5:30 pm on First Street, from Kincaid to Division in Downtown Mount Vernon. At 5:30 pm, the public is invited to join in the annual Costume Contest at the Lincoln Theatre. 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place prizes will be awarded in age categories 0-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-17 and Young At Heart (18+). Prizes will also be awarded for our new category: Best Multi-Party Group (2 or more characters illustrating a common theme). Last year’s contest drew a packed house of contestants and spectators! Please note: the start time has been adjusted to 3:30, ½ hour later to better accommodate the Mount Vernon School District schedule. The Mount Vernon Downtown requests that members of the community donate unopened bags of candy to assist the downtown merchants in supplying candy to an estimated 2,000 attendees. Candy donations may be dropped by Friday, October 27, at the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce, 301 W. Kincaid Street, Mount Vernon.
