Managing a Diverse Workforce Part 1: Self Examination

The demographics of the United States are rapidly changing. By 2050 the United States will become a minority-majority nation. Are you as an organizational leader, manager, or supervisor prepared to manage a diverse workforce? Managing a Diverse Workforce is a two-part leadership series that prepares organizational leaders for the changing workforce demographic. Workshop 1 prepares leaders by looking within themselves to learn in a non judgmental, gracious and affirming environment. Workshop topics will include: terms and definitions on diversity, the four types of racism, bias, prejudice, privilege, micro-aggressions as well as taking private assessments to reveal your personal biases. We will also identify resources for further learning and exploration. Knowledge of the competencies learned in this course benefit organizations by helping their leaders be more aware of self-bias and prejudice to create an organizational culture of appreciation for diversity and inclusion.

Kimberly Harris, M. Ed., has a background in education and social justice activism, and provides training in cultural awareness for higher education institutions, communities, businesses and social service agencies. Kimberly is trained to facilitate conversations about race, class and gender to promote diversity and inclusion at the workplace. Managing a Diverse Workforce is a two-part leadership series that prepares organizational leaders, managers, and/or supervisors for our changing population. Each session will provide an introduction and overview for self and organizational examination. Beginning and advanced trainings are available and can be customized to meet your organizational needs through the Skagit Valley College Customized Training Program.

Please note: Workshops run during the lunch hour to make it convenient for our business partners, though we do not provide lunch. This helps us to conduct the workshops at a minimum cost for our participants. However, participants are more than welcome to bring in their own lunch and beverages.
